The Impact of Musical Theater on My Life

All through elementary
school, kids, especially the boys, would tease me because I didn’t play a sport.
I tried baseball, basketball and finally wrestling because it was “the guy thing to do”. I did skate for awhile, tried hockey, hated it, and preferred the “performing” part of figure
skating.
Then one day I was
at a performance of my brother’s (it was Guys and Dolls) and I instantly fell in love with Musical Theater. Over the next seven years I became involved in as much preparation for performance as I could. I attended every rehearsal that I didn’t get kicked out of for the high school shows my brother was
in and memorized everyone’s part. I learned to play the piano, joined a
Children’s Show Choir, and sang when they would let me in church. I was participated in State honor’s Choirs.
I took some basic acting and dance at Point Park and of course went to every
show that I could talk my parents into taking me to.
But what really
made me want more was being on stage in Pittsburgh Opera’s “Billy Bud”! The audience applause and the excitement
before the curtain goes up. There is nothing like it!
Then I followed
in my brother’s footsteps and found CLO Academy Classes and camps. It’s
everything I love. Its friends, music, acting, music, dancing, music, school
(just kidding), music, and great teachers (not kidding). Oh, did I mention MUSIC
?
Now I have something
that I do well and that I am proud of. Don’t get me wrong, most of the
boys still make fun of me, probably more, but I don’t care anymore because I’m doing something that I love and
that makes me happy. There’s no business like show business!
